Malachi 3:23 (Yahovah of armies said) Look, I will send to you Eliyahu the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible Day of Yahovah.

Luke 1:17 (An angel said to Z'kharyah about Yohanan)" He will go out ahead of Yahovah in the spirit and power of Eliyahu to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for Yahovah a people prepared."

John 1:²¹ "Then who are you?" they asked him. "Are you Eliyahu?" "No, I am not," he said. "Are you 'the prophet,' the one we're expecting?" "No," he replied. ²² So they said to him, "Who are you? - so that we can give an answer to the people who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?" ²³ He answered in the words of Yesha'yahu the prophet, "I am The voice of someone crying out: 'In the desert make the way of Yahovah straight!'" ²⁴ Some of those who had been sent were P'rushim. ²⁵ They asked him, "If you are neither the Messiah nor Eliyahu nor 'the prophet,' then why are you immersing people?"

Matthew 11: ¹⁴ Indeed, if you are willing to accept it, he (Yochanan) is Eliyahu, whose coming was predicted. ¹⁵ If you have ears, then hear!

Mark 6:¹⁴ Meanwhile, King Herod heard about this, for Yeshua's reputation had spread. Some were saying, "Yochanan the Immerser has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him." ¹⁵ Others said, "It is Eliyahu!" and still others, "He is a prophet, like one of the old prophets." ¹⁶ But when Herod heard about it, he said, "Yochanan, whom I had beheaded, has been raised."

Luke 9:⁷ Herod the governor heard about all that was going on and was perplexed, because it was said by some that Yochanan had been raised from the dead, ⁸ by others that Eliyahu had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life. ⁹ Herod said, "I had Yochanan beheaded, so who is this about whom I keep hearing such things?" And he began trying to see him.

Luke 9:¹⁸ Once when Yeshua was praying in private, his talmidim were with him; and he asked them, "Who are the crowds saying I am?" ¹⁹ They answered, "Yochanan the Immerser; but others say Eliyahu, and others that some prophet of long ago has risen."

Matthew 17: ³ Then they (Kefa, Ya'akov and his brother Yochanan) looked and saw Moshe and Eliyahu speaking with him. ⁴ Kefa said to Yeshua, "It's good that we're here, Lord. I'll put up three shelters if you want - one for you, one for Moshe and one for Eliyahu." ⁵ While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!" ⁶ When the talmidim heard this, they were so frightened that they fell face down on the ground. ⁷ But Yeshua came and touched them. "Get up!" he said, "Don't be afraid." ⁸ So they opened their eyes, looked up and saw only Yeshua by himself. ⁹ As they came down the mountain, Yeshua ordered them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." ¹⁰ The talmidim asked him, "Then why do the Torah-teachers say that Eliyahu must come first?" ¹¹ He answered, "On the one hand, Eliyahu is coming and will restore all things; ¹² on the other hand, I tell you that Eliyahu has come already, and people did not recognize him, but did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way, the Son of Man too is about to suffer at their hands." ¹³ Then the talmidim understood that he was talking to them about Yochanan the Immerser.

Mark 9:11-13 ¹¹ They also asked him, "Why do the Torah-teachers say that Eliyahu has to come first?" ¹² "Eliyahu will indeed come first," he answered, "and he will restore everything. Nevertheless, why is it written in the Tanakh that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? ¹³ There's more to it: I tell you that Eliyahu has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as the Tanakh says about him."

Matthew 27: ⁴⁶ At about three, Yeshua uttered a loud cry, "Eli! Eli! L'mah sh'vaktani? (My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?)" ⁴⁷ On hearing this, some of the bystanders said, "He's calling for Eliyahu." ⁴⁸ Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, soaked it in vinegar, put it on a stick and gave it to him to drink. ⁴⁹ The rest said, "Wait! Let's see if Eliyahu comes and rescues him."
